For those of you who haven’t been following the #TakeBackWallStreet or #OccupyWallStreet action, today was the first day of Occupy Wall Street. Background on the inspiration for the action can be foundhere.

A live blog has been running on FDL’s The Dissenter since the action began around noon today. It is night time. A general assembly has apparently voted to try and occupy some public sidewalk legally on Wall Street. That is after the owner of the property they were on reportedly said the protesters might be able to stay and camp. Riot police and police on horseback have had the protest surrounded. It is said that 10 pm ET was the curfew police were imposing and they would all be dispersed from the park area then.

Now, the live blog resumes here. [And, here's a Twitter list to follow for latest on the action.]

10:40 PM Amazing resolution to the day’s action: Protesters are now rolling out sleeping bags. The police vans are taking off. No tear gas. Day two begins at 10 am ET tomorrow.

10:34 PM Rapper Lupe Fiasco sending protesters a mobile system:

If you are not familiar with Lupe Fiasco, here is a great rap for this action (possibly one of the few rap songs with Gaza Strip in the roll call) –

10:27 PM Well, that settles that —

10:20 PM Call to action published by organizers. An excerpt:

We need to address the core facts: these corporations, even if they were unable to compete in the electoral arena, would still remain control of society. They would retain economic control, which would allow them to retain political control. Term limits would, again, not solve this, as many in the political class already leave politics to find themselves as part of the corporate elites.

We need to retake the freedom that has been stolen from the people, altogether.
